So you've decided you want an Outer Banks wedding - that's a no-brainer :) - but now what?

Planning a destination wedding 2+ hours from your home may seem daunting at first but thanks to the Outer Banks Wedding Association and all of the amazing vendors who make up the organization, it doesn't need to be scary at all!

The Outer Banks Wedding Association is meant to be a resource for brides - getting them in touch with the best, sharing real weddings and Pinterest boards for wedding inspiration and more!

This week the Wedding Association unveiled it's brand new website - which is much more interactive & easy to navigate than the old version. (Not to mention gorgeous!)

Mid-Week Makes Sense!

In 2012 we started to see a trend of mid-week weddings. They continued to be popular throughout 2013 and don't seem to be slowing down for 2014 either! Having a mid-week wedding during the summer months just makes sense - most rental homes are Saturday - Saturday or Sunday - Sunday which makes having a weekend wedding pretty tough. There's also the weekend traffic to contend with. Choosing a date a few days into your vacation week gives everyone time to relax and get settled instead of rushing. Another perk to a mid-week wedding? Lower rates :) We offer $750 off our normal reception fee for weddings Sunday - Thursday and other vendors offer price breaks as well! Here is one of our many mid-week weddings from 2013, this one on a Tuesday!

Happy Planning!

An Intimate but Fun June Wedding

It's no secret that I have quite a few "favorite" weddings but this one truly is in the top 5! Although this was a much smaller group (less than 30), every guest was so much fun and it was such an honor to be able to be a part of this amazing bride & groom's day. The wedding party really made this wedding reception come to life - they played a game of flip cup to get the party started! And don't get me started on the gorgeous centerpieces and special touches - I could go on for hours!

 Gorgeous Flowers!
Love the special touches - the mason jar drinking glasses, the straws, the signs - "the crew"!

Custom made CDs + the drinking glasses were the guests' favors!

This Flip Cup game followed the wedding party introductions - one of the most memorable events of our season!

June Wedding Kickoff

June was another busy month for weddings and we kicked it off on June 1st with this fun one! With bright colors, lots of personal touches & monogrammed corn hole boards it was guaranteed that everyone would have a good time!

Happy Planning!

Ashley & Andy ~ June 1st, 2013

Their ceremony was under the veranda and featured a monogrammed backdrop!

The blue chevron was tied in to much of the decor - how fun!

Veranda transformed for dinner, post-ceremony!

These "Welcome" vases were right by the guests' entry and turned around to say "Thank You" as the guests exited at the end of the night!

Corn hole is such a fun element for a spring or summer reception - especially for cocktail hour!

Want to save the planet & money? This is a great alternative to a traditional ceremony program!

Memorial Day Weekend - The Finale!

We wrapped up our Memorial Day Weekend 2013 with this beauty of a wedding! The flowers & decor from Renee Landry were phenomenal - such vibrant coral & pink flowers! Everything was very "updated vintage" - pairing vintage mercury glass vases with contemporary flowers; muted gray runners but with a fun pattern; coordinating color bridesmaid dresses but all different styles & much  more! Here's a link to the professional photos from this wedding but keep your eyes peeled for our amateur shots in a later blog post that show more of the actual decor & veranda setup! This wedding was so gorgeous it gets two blog posts :)

Happy Planning!

Memorial Day Weekend - Part 2!

Our second wedding of Memorial Day weekend was such a sweet one - the couple both share a common love for Syracuse University and showed that through their orange and blue wedding decor. Another swoon-worthy fact? The got engaged in the Outer Banks on May 26th, 2012 and wed here exactly one year later! Such a fun group to celebrate with!

<3 Mason Jars - I didn't get a good photo but they hung mason jars from the arch as well!

Could not have asked for a more perfect May day!

It's the little things that make a wedding!

The bride and her mom collected tons of really cool vintage vases the year leading up to the wedding - the centerpieces turned out great!
What a cute cake & a great budget friendly idea - this bride had one cutting tier displayed on a perfect cake stand and then we had sheet cakes that we cut behind the scenes and served to the guests. This is definitely a more cost effective alternative to a 3+ tier cake required to feed most guests!

Memorial Day Weekend - Busiest of the Year!

Memorial Day Weekend has quickly become the most popular wedding weekend of the year on the Outer Banks and for good reason! The long weekend allows guests to make a mini-vacation out of it and the late May weather combined with empty beaches is just perfect! We had 3 weddings + 1 brunch at The Currituck Club this 2013 Memorial Day Weekend -  here are photos from the first wedding!

Trend Alert - The Wedding Weekend

What's becoming more and more popular here on the Outer Banks? Welcome Parties & Day-After Brunches! Since most weddings that are hosted here are destination weddings and guests are coming from out of town for the weekend or week, a lot of people plan a weekend's worth of events for everyone attending. Instead of your traditional rehearsal dinner, we host alot of  welcome parties that include all wedding guests and not just the wedding party and immediate family. It's more like a "welcome to the beach" and a great kick off to the wedding weekend. Then the morning after the wedding it's becoming increasingly popular to host a brunch to allow everyone to get together one more time and say thank yous and goodbyes before hitting the road to head home! You can host all 3 events at one venue (The Currituck Club of course!) or you can do a combination of events at a venue and at a rental home. In addition to our veranda and outside space, we also have the indoor Rees Jones Lounge so you can host multiple events at the Club without having everything look and feel the same! We also do off-site caterings in the Corolla area for those types of events.

Below are pictures from a welcome dinner we hosted on May 10th, 2013 (wedding was held at an event home the next day)

Here's a Day-After Brunch we hosted May 26th, 2013 (wedding was held here at The Currituck Club the night before - stay tuned for photos!)

Love the use of the bridesmaids bouquets from the night before as centerpieces for the brunch!

April Showers bring...more May Showers?

May was not a good weather month for us here on the Outer Banks this year - it rained ALOT, was extremely windy, and was unseasonably cold! I'm talking high temperatures in the 50s for much of the month! Although we did have to revert to Plan B on a few things, we were very fortunate that the rain held off for all of our May ceremonies! As much as everyone wants a perfect sunny day for their wedding, just ask any photographer and they'll tell you to hope for some cloud cover for the best photos, especially on the water! Here's an example of just such a wedding - can't wait to see the professional photos from Coastal Shots when they're ready!

Happy Planning!
Ashley

PS - Prior year weather is not always a great future year indicator - just because it was cold and rainy in May 2013 does NOT mean it will be in May 2014! Similarly, even though we had a hurricane October 2012, does not guarantee there will be one October 2013! Stick with averages :)

Creative Currituck Club Wedding

One of the great things about The Currituck Club is that you can have a wedding as simple or as extravagant as you want! We offer a blank canvas that lends itself to whatever ideas you can come up with, plus the coordination and service to make it happen! This wedding is a great example of using The Currituck Club in a unique way and really realizing it's full potential. Starting with a soundfront ceremony on #7, the bride and groom also rented a tent to hold the dinner portion of the reception and turned the veranda into a lounge, complete with band & dance floor, photo booth, and lounge area. I apologize in advance for the plethora of pictures - especially of the lounge area - I'm obsessed with what Holiday House created!

Happy Planning!
Ashley

Teresa & Danny ~ May 18th, 2013

Gorgeous!

Loved the sea glass on this cake - it really added that extra "something"!

Holiday House Weddings & Events did all of the decor while Ocean Atlantic Event Rentals provided the rentals.

My pictures do not even do this area justice - it was so clean and crisp but with a dash of beachy romance!
Another special touch - Holiday House did groupings of lanterns and candles scattered all around the inside perimeter of the veranda, when these were lit at night it made such an huge impact! It really did feel like an intimate lounge area with all of the candle light and overhead bistro bulb lighting.
Loved this dramatic ceiling install - see below for the full affect when lit up at night!
Ok I promise, last one of the lounge!
 Centerpieces at night

Their band was awesome! They really made the reception fun and got all of the guests into party-mode, they even had all 130 guests to start a love train around the golf range!
