Are you ready for the 2012 OBWA Expo?

Mark your calendars - the annual Outer Banks Wedding Association's Wedding Tour and Expo Weekend is January 7th & 8th - less than 3 weeks away! Are you planning to attend? This weekend allows Brides to meet with as many vendors as possible, and even get much of their wedding planning done in 2 days! On Saturday, ceremony and reception venues all along the beach will be holding open houses, featuring their location as well as other vendors. Then Sunday, 200+ OBX wedding vendors will all be in one place, allowing you to meet and interact with them all! This weekend can be overwhelming, but very beneficial! A few tips:

  • Come with a plan! Make a list of all of your must-see vendors and decide which day/time  and how you will accomplish that.
  • Plan your time wisely! The tour on Saturday is such a great tool, but it is impossible to hit every stop and still get genuine interaction at each. Look at your list of must-see vendors and compare it to the Tour Map - see which tour stops will feature the most of your must-see vendors and focus on those. Also, hone in on one or two geographic areas - checking out both Corolla and Hatteras locations is probably not the best use of time... Stick to Northern Beaches (Corolla, Duck, Kitty Hawk), Middle Beaches (Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo), or Southern Beaches (Hatteras Island)
  • Know what you are looking for before walking through the First Flight Middle and High School doors! If you have already chosen a florist, don't waste your time looking at other florists. Keep your mission in mind and look for only those types of vendors.
  • Stay an extra day or two! Didn't get to see everything you wanted or meet with all of your must-see vendors? Set up appointments for the Monday after the Expo. Many vendors will still have everything set-up and would be more than happy to meet with you in a less hectic setting :) This is also a good thing to plan in advance - if there is one or two vendors that you are VERY interested in, go ahead and try to set up an appointment with them the Friday before or Monday after. That way you can guarantee you'll get to meet with them and you won't need to worry about squeezing them in on the crazy days, saving you time!

We'll be a tour stop on Saturday so make sure you swing by! Our veranda will be set-up and we'll have hors d'oeuvres and other goodies! I encourage tour appointments on the days around Expo weekend, so let me know if you'll be in town an extra day or two!

Happy Planning!

Top 5 Places to get Engaged on the Outer Banks

Now that wedding season has wrapped up here in Corolla, I can start doing some different post topics! I'll be featuring weddings from earlier this year (pre-blog going live) and also helpful hints, trends, etc! Did you know that 1 out of every 5 proposals takes place in the month of December? To start "engagement season" off right...

Top 5 Places to Pop the Question in OBX:

5. Atop the dunes of Jockey's Ridge
4. At the end of Jennette's Pier
3. At the top of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse (or any lighthouse!)
2. Soundside during Sunset, especially in the hidden nooks of Southern Shores, Duck, and Corolla
1. On the Beach - ANYWHERE!

Recently Engaged? Come take a look at our beautiful wedding venue so you can imagine just how perfect your Outer Banks Wedding can be at The Currituck Club!

11.11.11

November 11th, 2011 was the biggest day in the wedding world this year and marked our final wedding of the 2011 season here at The Currituck Club! I would like to thank everyone who made this year so successful, including all of the Brides & Grooms and their friends and families, the amazing OBX wedding vendors, and my staff here at the Club! We're excited to catch our breath for a few weeks but are already looking forward to a great 2012 season.

Heather and Devin were a great couple to close the season out with - their love for each other shows in everything they do and they are so easy-going! The combination of parasols and lots of candlelight made for a whimsically romantic evening, despite the unusually chilly weather. Congratulations Heather and Devin!

A Local Connection

There's something even more special about a wedding where the Bride and Groom have a connection to the location! In this case, John and Lori have both spent quite a few summers in Corolla, and John even worked a few weddings at The Currituck Club back in the day :) The bright Tiffany Blue and Poppy Red that Lori chose for the decor really brightened up an unusually chilly October Saturday and everyone kept warm by dancing the night away! Congratulations John and Lori - Thanks for letting us be a part of your big day!

True Love & True Blue

Sarah and Chris are made for each other, and that was made very apparent this past weekend! The Currituck Club had the honor of hosting both their rehearsal dinner and wedding reception and enjoyed every minute of planning and then celebrating with this couple and their families. They picked amazing food & great drinks to serve their guests and decorated with one of my favorite colors - navy blue! Congratulations Sarah and Chris Marsh!

Kind Words from Cathy Peters, Mother of the Bride:
"I would like to thank you and the staff at the club for a perfect wedding. Everything went according to plan. You were great to work with and I would not hesitate to have daughter #2's wedding at The Currituck Club!"

Thank you, Cathy!

Pretty in Pink

Homeowner's Weekend was topped off with a very special wedding - the daughter of two of our club members! The decor was simple and classic - pink, white, lights, and roses but with a fun twist - the giggle table! One of the things that Renee Landry Style is know for is their giggle tables for the children attending the wedding, complete with special decor, games, toys, and other fun things! A must-have if you have lots of kids attending your reception! My other favorite thing of this event was the way Renee draped the fabric and lights from the center of the veranda - it really highlighted how awesome our cathedral ceiling is!

John Harper, DJ, brings those great colored lights with him - and I promise it makes the dance party even better :)

The Busiest Weekend of the Fall

This past weekend was our annual Homeowner's Weekend at The Currituck Club, which means lots of people, lots of meetings, and lots of events! Oh, and add a wedding in there too... Here are a few pictures of the weekend's main events - the Friday Welcome Reception and Saturday Celebration Dinner. I'll do another post soon to feature the Sunday wedding!

October Already?

Can you believe that we are already a week into October? It's going to be such a crazy busy month here, and we definitely started it off with a bang last weekend! The wine bottles and corks were such a great idea for decor - they added just the right amount of fall coloring. And this one comes with a cute story - the bride and groom actually met in Corolla when they both interned in the Corolla Light community :)

Country Chic

Another rainy Saturday at The Currituck Club last weekend, but another beautiful wedding! The southern girl in me fell in love with this wedding's decor - blue mason jars, burlap, and bright fuchsia accents were perfect! It was the little details that made this one so special - the clothespin-hung place cards, card basket with banner, and the simple Italian lights strung above the dance floor. Definitely a wedding for the inspiration board :)

Happy Planning!
